Tactile graphics represent a variety of illustrations, diagrams or graphs that contain information conveyed in non-textual formats.

In the past few years Canadian and American Braille authorities addressed some of the issues related to tactile graphics by developing guidelines and standards for their production. At the same time, advances in Braille and graphic software, capsular paper and related technologies and options to share tactile graphics files provided PRCVI with an opportunity to develop a province wide system for the production and sharing of quality tactile graphics. In addition, best practice required that a more comprehensive developmental approach to the instruction provided to students in the interpretation of tactile graphics should be encouraged across the province.

PRCVI has created an inventory of over 700 tactile graphics files that meet current production standards. The files are available online for download and are inventoried according to grade level and subject area. Thumbnails, organized by content area, are also available.
