About Us
The Provincial Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (PRCVI) is a Ministry of Education Provincial Resource Program, hosted by the Vancouver School Board (VSB).
PRCVI Mission
The mission of the PRCVI is to provide leadership, information, training and consultation to support school districts' goals of equitable access and enhanced learning opportunities for students with visual impairments.PRCVI Mandate
The primary function of the PRCVI is to provide British Columbia school districts and Group 1 & 2 Independent schools with alternate formats of provincially recommended learning resources and with specialized equipment to support the educational needs of students with visual impairments.A second responsibility is to support school districts by providing training and inservice opportunities for teachers of students with visual impairments.
Thirdly, PRCVI provides to schools, on a cost recovery basis, access to its audiotape and E-text collection for use by students with a print disability.
Who are we?
PRCVI houses a collection of alternate format instructional materials and specialized equipment. Loans of materials, consultation and inservice are provided to school districts and independent schools throughout British Columbia which enrol students who are visually impaired.
Who Do We Serve?
Students who are blind or visually impaired and attending school in British Columbia are eligible for services from PRCVI. School Districts are responsible for the proper care and storage of materials or equipment borrowed.

Alternate Format Instructional Materials
We publish materials for primary and secondary students in Braille, large print, e-text and audio tape.Specialized Equipment
We provide the following equipment for loan:- braille writers
- variable-speed tape recorders
- talking calculators
- monoculars
- magnifiers
- biology models
- tactile maps
- diagrams and more
Professional Resource Publications
The Professional Library contains videos, books, kits and journals pertaining to visual impairment, blindness and deafblindness. This collection is available for loan to teachers in public and independent schools.Print Disability Cost Recovery Program
PRCVI's collection of audio tapes and E-text are available for sale on a cost recovery basis to students with a print disability.Training, Consultation & Inservice
Videotapes on visual impairment and deafblindness, orientation and mobility are available for viewing.
